তারা কি দেখে না যে, এটা তাদের কোন কথার উত্তর দেয় না এবং তারে কোন ক্ষতি ও উপকার করার ক্ষমতাও রাখে না?
Did they not see that it could not return them a word (for answer), and that it had no power either to harm them or to do them good?
أَفَلَا يَرَوْنَ أَلَّا يَرْجِعُ إِلَيْهِمْ قَوْلًا وَلَا يَمْلِكُ لَهُمْ ضَرًّا وَلَا نَفْعًا
Afala yarawna alla yarjiAAu ilayhim qawlan wala yamliku lahum darran wala nafAAan
YUSUFALI: Could they not see that it could not return them a word (for answer), and that it had no power either to harm them or to do them good?
PICKTHAL: See they not, then, that it returneth no saying unto them and possesseth for them neither hurt nor use?
SHAKIR: What! could they not see that it did not return to them a reply, and (that) it did not control any harm or benefit for them?
KHALIFA: Could they not see that it neither responded to them, nor possessed any power to harm them, or benefit them?
৮৯। তারা কি দেখতে পায় না যে, এটা তাদের একটি কথারও [ উত্তর ] ফেরত দিতে পারে না। এবং ইহা তাদের কোন ক্ষতি অথবা কোন উপকার করার ক্ষমতা রাখে না ? ২৬১২।
২৬১২। সমস্ত ঘটনার প্রেক্ষিতে এই আয়াতে মন্তব্য করা হয়েছে। ইসরাঈলীরা সর্বশক্তিমান অল্লাহ্র বিভিন্ন ক্ষমতার সাক্ষী, তবুও তারা সেই সর্বশক্তিমানের এবাদত ত্যাগ করে মূর্তি পূঁজাতে অধিক আগ্রহী। আল্লাহ্ তাদের নির্দ্দিষ্ট আদেশ দান করেছেন। ইহুদীরা সেই আদেশকে অমান্য করে গোবৎসের হাম্বা রবের প্রতি অধিক মনোযোগী হয়। এ কথা তাদের চিন্তায় আসে নাই যে গোবৎসের হাম্বা রব হয়তো পূঁজারীর প্রতারণা – যা অহরহই ঘটে থাকে। গো বৎসের এই মূর্তি ভালো বা মন্দ করার কোনও ক্ষমতাই রাখে না। আল্লাহ্ হচ্ছেন সমস্ত বিশ্বভূবনের পালনকর্তা , রক্ষাকর্তা। যার দয়া ও করুণা অপরসীম, যার ক্রোধ ভয়াবহ।
