তারা আরও বলেছে, আমরা ধনে-জনে সমৃদ্ধ, সুতরাং আমরা শাস্তিপ্রাপ্ত হব না।
And they say: ”We are more in wealth and in children, and we are not going to be punished.”
وَقَالُوا نَحْنُ أَكْثَرُ أَمْوَالًا وَأَوْلَادًا وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ
Waqaloo nahnu aktharu amwalan waawladan wama nahnu bimuAAaththabeena
YUSUFALI: They said: “We have more in wealth and in sons, and we cannot be punished.”
PICKTHAL: And they say: We are more (than you) in wealth and children. We are not the punished!
SHAKIR: And they say: We have more wealth and children, and we shall not be punished.
KHALIFA: They also said, “We are more powerful, with more money and children, and we will not be punished.”
৩৫। তারা বলেছিলো, ” আমরা ধনে ও সন্তানে অনেক বেশী ৩৮৪২, এবং আমাদের শাস্তি দেয়া হবে না।”
৩৮৪২। ক্ষমতা ও ধন সম্পদ মানুষকে উদ্ধত, অহংকারী করে তোলে। প্রভাব প্রতিপত্তি তাদের শক্তিমদমত্ত করে তোলে। তাদের ধারণা যেহেতু পৃথিবীতে তারা শ্রেষ্ঠ, পরলোকেও তাদের শ্রেষ্ঠত্ব রক্ষা করা হবে। আয়াত ৩১-৩৩ পর্যন্ত এ সব উদ্ধত অহংকারী ও ক্ষমতাদর্পী তারা যাদের দুর্বল ও অবজ্ঞেয় মনে করতো তাদের তুলনা করা হয়েছে।
