স্থলে ও জলে মানুষের কৃতকর্মের দরুন বিপর্যয় ছড়িয়ে পড়েছে। আল্লাহ তাদেরকে তাদের কর্মের শাস্তি আস্বাদন করাতে চান, যাতে তারা ফিরে আসে।
Evil (sins and disobedience of Allâh, etc.) has appeared on land and sea because of what the hands of men have earned (by oppression and evil deeds, etc.), that Allâh may make them taste a part of that which they have done, in order that they may return (by repenting to Allâh, and begging His Pardon).
ظَهَرَ الْفَسَادُ فِي الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِي النَّاسِ لِيُذِيقَهُم بَعْضَ الَّذِي عَمِلُوا لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ
Thahara alfasadu fee albarri waalbahri bima kasabat aydee alnnasi liyutheeqahum baAAda allathee AAamiloo laAAallahum yarjiAAoona
YUSUFALI: Mischief has appeared on land and sea because of (the meed) that the hands of men have earned, that (Allah) may give them a taste of some of their deeds: in order that they may turn back (from Evil).
PICKTHAL: Corruption doth appear on land and sea because of (the evil) which men’s hands have done, that He may make them taste a part of that which they have done, in order that they may return.
SHAKIR: Corruption has appeared in the land and the sea on account of what the hands of men have wrought, that He may make them taste a part of that which they have done, so that they may return.
KHALIFA: Disasters have spread throughout the land and sea, because of what the people have committed. He thus lets them taste the consequences of some of their works, that they may return (to the right works).

৪১। মানুষের হাত যা অর্জন করেছে [ কৃতকর্ম ] , তার দরুণ স্থলে ও সমুদ্রে অশান্তি দৃষ্টিগোচর হয় ৩৫৫৬। এজন্য যে [আল্লাহ্ ] যেনো তাদেরকে তাদের কোন কোন কাজের জন্য [ শাস্তির ] আস্বাদ দিতে পারেন ; যেনো তারা [ মন্দ থেকে ] ফিরে আসে ৩৫৫৭।
৩৫৫৬। আল্লাহ্র সৃষ্টি সর্বদা সুন্দর ও পবিত্র। সমাজ জীবনে দূর্নীতি এবং প্রকৃতির মাঝে বিপর্যয় সৃষ্টির কারণ হচ্ছে মানুষের পাপ কর্ম, যে পাপ কর্মের উৎস হচ্ছে মানুষের স্বার্থপরতা এবং উদ্ধত অহংকার [ দেখুন টিকা ৩৫৪১ এবং আয়াত ৩০ : ৩০ ]। সমাজ জীবনেই হোক বা বিশ্ব প্রকৃতিতেই হোক যখনই মানুষের পাপে কোনও বিপর্যয় ঘটে থাকে আল্লাহ্র করুণা ও দয়া তা প্রতিরোধ করে থাকে। যদিও মন্দ কাজের শেষ পরিণতি মন্দ তবুও মানুষ যতটুকু পাপ করে সে অনুপাতে তাকে শাস্তি দান করা হয় না ; কারণ তাকে আবার সৎপথে ফিরে আসার সুযোগ দান করার জন্য আংশিক ভাবে “কোন কোন কর্মের শাস্তি” আস্বাদন করানো হয়।
৩৫৫৭। আল্লাহ্র বিচক্ষণ বিচার এবং শাস্তি সবই মানুষকে পাপ পথ থেকে ফিরিয়ে এনে তাকে পূত পবিত্র রূপে , যেমন সে ছিলো পৃথিবীতে প্রথম আগমনের সময়ে, প্রতিষ্ঠিত করার চেষ্টা। পৃথিবীতে মানব শিশু জন্মগ্রহণ করে পূত পবিত্র রূপে। পাপের প্ররোচনা ও প্রভাবে সে তার সীমিত স্বাধীন ইচ্ছাশক্তির অপব্যবহার করে থাকে। আল্লাহ্র সীমিত শাস্তির দ্বারা এই “স্বাধীন ইচ্ছাশক্তিকে” পাপের প্রভাবমুক্ত করে সুপথে ফিরিয়ে আনতে চান।
