তারা তো সেই জনপদের উপর দিয়েই যাতায়াত করে, যার ওপর বর্ষিত হয়েছে মন্দ বৃষ্টি। তবে কি তারা তা প্রত্যক্ষ করে না? বরং তারা পুনরুজ্জীবনের আশঙ্কা করে না।
And indeed they have passed by the town [of Prophet Lout (Lot)] on which was rained the evil rain. Did they (disbelievers) not then see it (with their own eyes)? Nay ! But they used not to expect for any resurrection.
وَلَقَدْ أَتَوْا عَلَى الْقَرْيَةِ الَّتِي أُمْطِرَتْ مَطَرَ السَّوْءِ أَفَلَمْ يَكُونُوا يَرَوْنَهَا بَلْ كَانُوا لَا يَرْجُونَ نُشُورًا
Walaqad ataw AAala alqaryati allatee omtirat matara alssaw-i afalam yakoonoo yarawnaha bal kanoo la yarjoona nushooran
YUSUFALI: And the (Unbelievers) must indeed have passed by the town on which was rained a shower of evil: did they not then see it (with their own eyes)? But they fear not the Resurrection.
PICKTHAL: And indeed they have passed by the township whereon was rained the fatal rain. Can it be that they have not seen it? Nay, but they hope for no resurrection.
SHAKIR: And certainly they have (often) passed by the town on which was rained an evil rain; did they not then see it? Nay! they did not hope to be raised again.
KHALIFA: They have passed by the community that was showered with a miserable shower (Sodom). Did they not see it? The fact is, they never believed in resurrection.
৩৯। তাদের প্রত্যেকের জন্য আমি উপমা এবং উদাহরণ উপস্থিত করেছি এবং [ তাদের পাপের জন্য ] প্রত্যেককেই আমি সম্পূর্ণ ধ্বংস করেছি।
৪০। এবং যে জনপদের উপরে বর্ষিত হয়েছিলো অকল্যাণের বৃষ্টি, (অবিশ্বাসীরা) তো সেই জনপদ দিয়েই যাতায়াত করে ৩০৯৫। তারা কি তা প্রত্যক্ষ করে না? কিন্তু তবুও তারা পুনরুত্থানের ভয় করে না।
৩০৯৫। ‘সেই জনপদ’ দ্বারা লূতের সম্প্রদায়ের বাসস্থানকে বোঝানো হয়েছে। মরু সাগরের [Dead Sea] তীরে অবস্থিত ‘সদম’ ও ‘ গোমরাহ্ ‘ শহরের ধ্বংসের উল্লেখ এখানে করা হয়েছে , যা প্রস্তর খন্ড বর্ষণ দ্বারা ধ্বংস করা হয়। স্থানটির অবস্থান সম্পর্কে বলা হয় , তা আরব ও সিরিয়ার বানিজ্য পথের ধারে মরু সাগরের উপকণ্ঠে অবস্থিত ছিলো। দেখুন [ ১৫ : ৭৪, ৭৬ ] আয়াত এবং টিকা ১৯৯৮।
