কাফেররা বলে, আমরা কখনও এ কোরআনে বিশ্বাস করব না এবং এর পূর্ববর্তী কিতাবেও নয়। আপনি যদি পাপিষ্ঠদেরকে দেখতেন, যখন তাদেরকে তাদের পালনকর্তার সামনে দাঁড় করানো হবে, , তখন তারা পরস্পর কথা কাটাকাটি করবে। যাদেরকে দুর্বল মনে করা হত, তারা অহংকারীদেরকে বলবে, তোমরা না থাকলে আমরা অবশ্যই মুমিন হতাম।
And those who disbelieve say: ”We believe not in this Qur’ân nor in that which was before it,” but if you could see when the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrongdoers, etc.) will be made to stand before their Lord, how they will cast the (blaming) word one to another! Those who were deemed weak will say to those who were arrogant: ”Had it not been for you, we should certainly have been believers!”
وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَن نُّؤْمِنَ بِهَذَا الْقُرْآنِ وَلَا بِالَّذِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَلَوْ تَرَى إِذِ الظَّالِمُونَ مَوْقُوفُونَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ يَرْجِعُ بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَى بَعْضٍ الْقَوْلَ يَقُولُ الَّذِينَ اسْتُضْعِفُوا لِلَّذِينَ اسْتَكْبَرُوا لَوْلَا أَنتُمْ لَكُنَّا مُؤْمِنِينَ
Waqala allatheena kafaroo lan nu/mina bihatha alqur-ani wala biallathee bayna yadayhi walaw tara ithi alththalimoona mawqoofoona AAinda rabbihim yarjiAAu baAAduhum ila baAAdin alqawla yaqoolu allatheena istudAAifoo lillatheena istakbaroo lawla antum lakunna mu/mineena
YUSUFALI: The Unbelievers say: “We shall neither believe in this scripture nor in (any) that (came) before it.” Couldst thou but see when the wrong-doers will be made to stand before their Lord, throwing back the word (of blame) on one another! Those who had been despised will say to the arrogant ones: “Had it not been for you, we should certainly have been believers!”
PICKTHAL: And those who disbelieve say: We believe not in this Qur’an nor in that which was before it; but oh, if thou couldst see, when the wrong-doers are brought up before their Lord, how they cast the blame one to another; how those who were despised (in the earth) say unto those who were proud: But for you, we should have been believers.
SHAKIR: And those who disbelieve say: By no means will we believe in this Quran, nor in that which is before it; and could you see when the unjust shall be made to stand before their Lord, bandying words one with another! Those who were reckoned weak shall say to those who were proud: Had it not been for you we would certainly have been believers.
KHALIFA: Those who disbelieve have said, “We will not believe in this Quran, nor in the previous scriptures.” If you could only envision these transgressors when they stand before their Lord! They will argue with one another back and forth. The followers will tell their leaders, “If it were not for you, we would have been believers.”

৩১। অবিশ্বাসীরা বলবে, ” আমরা এই কিতাবে [কুর-আন] অথবা যা এর পূর্বে এসেছে তার কোনটাই বিশ্বাস করি না ৩৮৩৪।” তুমি যদি দেখতে পেতে যখন এই পাপীদের তাদের প্রভুর সম্মুখে দাঁড় করানো হবে , তারা পরস্পর পরস্পরের প্রতি [দোষারোপ ] করতে থাকবে ৩৮৩৫। যারা ছিলো নগণ্য তারা ক্ষমতাদর্পীদের বলবে যে, ৩৮৩৬; ” তোমরা না থাকলে আমরা অবশ্যই মোমেন হতাম।”
৩৮৩৪। কাফের যারা তারা আল্লাহ্র প্রত্যাদেশে বিশ্বাস করে না। যুগে যুগে এদের অবস্থানের কোনও পরিবর্তন ঘটে নাই। রসুলের [ সা ] যুগে আরব মোশরেকরা কোরাণকে গ্রহণে অস্বীকার করে। এমন কি যারা কিতাবধারী জাতি তারাও আল্লাহ্ প্রেরিত শেষ এবং সার্বজনীন প্রত্যাদেশ কোরাণকে গ্রহণ করতে অস্বীকৃতি জানায়। তারা তা করে তাদের উদ্ধত অহংকার ও শ্রেষ্ঠত্বের মনোভাব থেকে।আরব মোশরেকরা এদের দ্বারা প্রভাবিত হতো। রসুলের [ সা ] যুগে গত হয়েছে , কিন্তু এ মানসিকতা সম্পন্ন্ দুধরণের লোক এখনও বিদ্যমান। একদল যারা পার্থিব জ্ঞানের গর্বে নিজেদের শ্রেষ্ঠ মনে করে এবং দুর্বল পক্ষকে প্রভাবিত করে , প্রতারিত করে থাকে।
৩৮৩৫। মূল কথা হচ্ছে দুর্বল ও প্রভাবশালী উভয়েরই বিশ্বাসের অভাব ছিলো অত্যন্ত বেশী। দুপক্ষই সমান দোষে দোষী। যখন শেষ বিচারের দিন উপস্থিত হবে এবং সকলের হিসাব গ্রহণ করা হবে, তখন একপক্ষ অন্যপক্ষকে দোষারোপ করতে থাকবে।
৩৮৩৬। অজ্ঞলোক যারা কিতাবধারী জাতিদের দ্বারা প্রতারিত হবে তারা বলবে, ” তোমরা আমাদের পথভ্রষ্ট করেছ ; তোমরা পূর্বে প্রত্যাদেশ লাভ করেছ ; সুতারাং তোমরা শেষ নবীর আগমন সম্বন্ধে অবগত ছিলে ; কিন্তু আমরা ছিলাম না। তোমাদের খারাপ উদাহরণ দ্বারা আমরা প্রভাবিত হয়ে আল্লাহ্র প্রত্যাদেশকে গ্রহণ করি নাই। তোমাদের খারাপ উদাহরণ না থাকলে আমরা বিশ্বাসীতে পরিণত হতাম।” অথবা যারা দুর্বল চিত্ত এবং সর্বদা তাদের নেতাকে অনুসরণ করে থাকে, অথবা যারা কম নেয়ামত প্রাপ্ত , তারা তাদের থেকে যারা শ্রেষ্ঠ তাদের অনুসরণ করে থাকে। এ সব লোকদেরই এখানে দুর্বল বলা হয়েছে। পৃথিবীতে যারা নিজেদের শ্রেষ্ঠ মনে করতো এবং নিজেদের ভন্ডামিপূর্ণ কার্যকলাপ দ্বারা লাভবান হতো ; শেষ বিচারের দিনে তারা ঘৃণার পাত্রে পরিণত হবে।
