যখন তাদের কাছে আল্লাহর পক্ষ থেকে একজন রসূল আগমন করলেন-যিনি ঐ কিতাবের সত্যায়ন করেন, যা তাদের কাছে রয়েছে, তখন আহলে কেতাবদের একদল আল্লাহর গ্রন্থকে পশ্চাতে নিক্ষেপ করল-যেন তারা জানেই না।
And when there came to them a Messenger from Allâh (i.e. Muhammad Peace be upon him ) confirming what was with them, a party of those who were given the Scripture threw away the Book of Allâh behind their backs as if they did not know!
وَلَمَّا جَاءهُمْ رَسُولٌ مِّنْ عِندِ اللّهِ مُصَدِّقٌ لِّمَا مَعَهُمْ نَبَذَ فَرِيقٌ مِّنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ الْكِتَابَ كِتَابَ اللّهِ وَرَاء ظُهُورِهِمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ
Walamma jaahum rasoolun min AAindi Allahi musaddiqun lima maAAahum nabatha fareequn mina allatheena ootoo alkitaba kitaba Allahi waraa thuhoorihim kaannahum la yaAAlamoona
YUSUFALI: And when there came to them a messenger from Allah, confirming what was with them, a party of the people of the Book threw away the Book of Allah behind their backs, as if (it had been something) they did not know!
PICKTHAL: And when there cometh unto them a messenger from Allah, confirming that which they possess, a party of those who have received the Scripture fling the Scripture of Allah behind their backs as if they knew not,
SHAKIR: And when there came to them a Messenger from Allah verifying that which they have, a party of those who were given the Book threw the Book of Allah behind their backs as if they knew nothing.
KHALIFA: Now that a messenger from GOD has come to them, and even though he proves and confirms their own scripture, some followers of the scripture (Jews, Christians, and Muslims) disregard GOD’s scripture behind their backs, as if they never had any scripture.
৯৮। যে কেউ আল্লাহ্র, তাঁর ফেরেশতাগণের, তাঁর রাসূলগণের এবং জিব্রাইল ও মীকাঈলের শত্রু; সে জেনে রাখুক; যারা ঈমান আনে না আল্লাহ তাদের শত্রু।
৯৯। আমি তোমার প্রতি সুস্পষ্ট নিদর্শন [আয়াতসমূহ] অবতীর্ণ করেছি। বিকৃত স্বভাব সম্পন্ন ব্যতীত আর কেউ তা প্রত্যাখান করে না।
১০০। [ঘটনা] কি এই নয় যে, প্রত্যেক সময় তারা অঙ্গীকার করে, [কিন্তু] তাদের মধ্যে একদল তা ছুঁড়ে ফেলে দেয়? বরং তাদের অধিকাংশই ঈমানহীন।
১০১। যখন তাদের নিকট আল্লাহ্র তরফ থেকে একজন রাসূল এসেছিলো, যে তাদের নিকট যা আছে উহার সমর্থক, কিতাবীদের একদল, আল্লাহ্র কিতাবটিকে পিছনে নিক্ষেপ করলো, যেনো [এটা এমন একটি ঘটনা যা] তারা জানে না ১০২।
১০২। এ আয়াতে রাসূলুল্লাহ (সাঃ) এর প্রতি ঈমান না আনার ব্যাপারে একটি বিশেষ অঙ্গীকার ভঙ্গের বিষয় বর্ণিত হয়েছে। তাদের কাছে আল্লাহ্র পক্ষ থেকে একজন মহান পয়গম্বর আসলেন এবং কুরআন নাজেল হলো যা ইহুদীদের কাছে যে ধর্মগ্রন্থ [তাওরাত] আছে তাকে সত্যায়ন করে। এ অবস্থায় রসূল করিম (সাঃ) এর প্রতি ঈমান আনা তাওরাতের নির্দেশ পালনেরই নামান্তর ছিল। তাওরাতকে তারাও আল্লাহ্র প্রেরিত গ্রন্থ মনে করতো। কিন্তু তা সত্ত্বেও তারা তাদের নিজেদের ধর্ম গ্রন্থের বাণীকে অস্বীকার করলো। নিজেদের পছন্দ অনুযায়ী তার পরিবর্তন করলো। যদি তারা আন্তরিক হতো তবে তারা অবশ্যই দেখতে পেতো তাদের ধর্মগ্রন্থের [তাওরাতের] যে বাণী বা নৈতিক নীতিমালা, সে নীতিমালা আমাদের কুরআনের নৈতিক নীতিমালারই অনুরূপ। কারণ সবই একই স্রষ্টার কাছ থেকে আগত। কিন্তু তারা সে চেষ্টা না করে কপটতার আশ্রয় গ্রহণ করলো। সবচেয়ে খারাপ কাজ যেটা তারা করলো তা হচ্ছে মিথ্যা কপটতা ও অমঙ্গলের পথ তারা বেছে নিল। মন্দের দ্বারা তারা প্রভাবিত হয়ে পড়লো। যেমন-তারা [আল্লাহ্র কিতাব অনুসরণ না করে] ম্যাজিক বা যাদুবিদ্যার প্রতি আসক্ত হয়ে পড়লো এবং তারই অনুসরণ করতো। পরবর্তী আয়াতে এ সম্বন্ধে আলোচনা করা হয়েছে।
