তারা বলবে-আপনি পবিত্র, আমরা আপনার পরিবর্তে অন্যকে মুরুব্বীরূপে গ্রহণ করতে পারতাম না; কিন্তু আপনিই তো তাদেরকে এবং তাদের পিতৃপুরুষদেরকে ভোগসম্ভার দিয়েছিলেন, ফলে তারা আপনার স্মৃতি বিস্মৃত হয়েছিল এবং তারা ছিল ধ্বংসপ্রাপ্ত জাতি।
They will say: ”Glorified be You! It was not for us to take any Auliyâ’ (Protectors, Helpers, etc.) besides You, but You gave them and their fathers comfort till they forgot the warning, and became a lost people (doomed to total loss).
قَالُوا سُبْحَانَكَ مَا كَانَ يَنبَغِي لَنَا أَن نَّتَّخِذَ مِن دُونِكَ مِنْ أَوْلِيَاء وَلَكِن مَّتَّعْتَهُمْ وَآبَاءهُمْ حَتَّى نَسُوا الذِّكْرَ وَكَانُوا قَوْمًا بُورًا
Qaloo subhanaka ma kana yanbaghee lana an nattakhitha min doonika min awliyaa walakin mattaAAtahum waabaahum hatta nasoo alththikra wakanoo qawman booran
YUSUFALI: They will say: “Glory to Thee! not meet was it for us that we should take for protectors others besides Thee: But Thou didst bestow, on them and their fathers, good things (in life), until they forgot the Message: for they were a people (worthless and) lost.”
PICKTHAL: They will say: Be Thou Glorified! it was not for us to choose any protecting friends beside thee; but Thou didst give them and their fathers ease till they forgot the warning and became lost folk.
SHAKIR: They shall say: Glory be to Thee; it was not beseeming for us that we should take any guardians besides Thee, but Thou didst make them and their fathers to enjoy until they forsook the reminder, and they were a people in perdition,
KHALIFA: They will say, “Be You glorified, it was not right for us to set up any lords beside You. But You allowed them to enjoy, together with their parents. Consequently, they disregarded the message and thus became wicked people.”
১৮। তারা বলবে, ” সব মহিমা তোমার ! আমাদের কি অধিকার ছিলো যে, তোমাকে ছাড়া অন্য কাউকে রক্ষাকর্তা হিসেবে গ্রহণ করবো ৩০৭৩ ? কিন্তু তুমি তাদের ও তাদের পিতৃপুরুষদের [ জীবনে ] সুখ উপভোগের নানা জিনিষ দান করেছিলে। সুতারাং তারা তোমার উপদেশ ভুলে গিয়েছিলো। নিশ্চয়ই তারা পরিণত হয়েছে এক ধ্বংস প্রাপ্ত জাতিতে।”
৩০৭৩। আল্লাহ্র সাথে অংশীদার করে মোশরেকরা যাদের উপাস্য রূপে এবাদত করতো সেই উপাস্যদের শেষ বিচারের দিনে জিজ্ঞাসা করা হবে যার উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে পূর্বের আয়াতে। এই আয়াতে মিথ্যা উপাস্যরা যে উত্তর দান করবে তার বর্ণনা আছে। আল্লাহ্র সৃষ্ট পদার্থ , যাদের উপাস্যরূপে পূঁজা করা হতো তারা প্রমাণ করবে যে, তারা এই পূঁজা দাবী করে নাই। অপরপক্ষে তারাই বরং আল্লাহ্র এবাদত করেছে আল্লাহ্ মনোনীত পন্থায়। কারণ আল্লাহ্-ই একমাত্র রক্ষাকর্তা ও অভিভাবক। দেখুন আয়াত [ ৪৬ : ৫-৬ ] সেই দিন মিথ্যা উপাস্যেরা শুধু যে অভিভাবকত্ব অস্বীকার করবে তাই নয়, তারা চোখে আঙ্গুল দিয়ে দেখিয়ে দেবে মোশরেকদের অকৃতজ্ঞতাকে। আল্লাহ্ তাদের প্রাচুর্য দেওয়া সত্বেও তারা আল্লাহ্র বিরুদ্ধে বিষোদগার করে। এরা সত্যিই “মূল্যহীন ” এবং ধ্বংসের যোগ্য। “Bur” শব্দটির দ্বারা এই ভাবকেই প্রকাশ করা হয়েছে।
