(অতঃপর) তারা যখন শাস্তিকে মেঘরূপে তাদের উপত্যকা অভিমুখী দেখল, তখন বলল, এ তো মেঘ, আমাদেরকে বৃষ্টি দেবে। বরং এটা সেই বস্তু, যা তোমরা তাড়াতাড়ি চেয়েছিলে। এটা বায়ু এতে রয়েছে মর্মন্তুদ শাস্তি।
Then, when they saw it as a dense cloud coming towards their valleys, they said: ”This is a cloud bringing us rain!” Nay, but it is that (torment) which you were asking to be hastened! a wind wherein is a painful torment!
فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهُ عَارِضًا مُّسْتَقْبِلَ أَوْدِيَتِهِمْ قَالُوا هَذَا عَارِضٌ مُّمْطِرُنَا بَلْ هُوَ مَا اسْتَعْجَلْتُم بِهِ رِيحٌ فِيهَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
Falamma raawhu AAaridan mustaqbila awdiyatihim qaloo hatha AAaridun mumtiruna bal huwa ma istaAAjaltum bihi reehun feeha AAathabun aleemun
YUSUFALI: Then, when they saw the (Penalty in the shape of) a cloud traversing the sky, coming to meet their valleys, they said, “This cloud will give us rain!” “Nay, it is the (Calamity) ye were asking to be hastened!- A wind wherein is a Grievous Penalty!
PICKTHAL: Then, when they beheld it as a dense cloud coming toward their valleys, they said: Here is a cloud bringing us rain. Nay, but it is that which ye did seek to hasten, a wind wherein is painful torment,
SHAKIR: So when they saw it as a cloud appearing in the sky advancing towards their valleys, they said: This is a cloud which will give us rain. Nay! it is what you sought to hasten on, a blast of wind in which is a painful punishment,
KHALIFA: When they saw the storm heading their way, they said, “This storm will bring to us much needed rain.” Instead, this is what you challenged (Hood) to bring; violent wind wherein there is painful retribution.
২৪। অতঃপর, যখন তারা [ শাস্তিকে ] মেঘের [ আকারে ] আকাশকে অতিক্রম করে তাদের উপত্যকার দিকে আসতে দেখলো ৪৮০২। তারা বলেছিলো, ” এই মেঘ আমাদের বৃষ্টি দেবে।” ” না ; এই সেই [শাস্তি ], যা তোমরা ত্বরান্বিত করতে চাইছিলে। – একটি বাতাস, যাতে রয়েছে দুঃখদায়ক শাস্তি।
৪৮০২। আদ জাতির শাস্তির বর্ণনা এখানে করা হয়েছে। তাদের শাস্তি এসেছিলো অকস্মাৎ – যখন তাদের মনে শাস্তি সম্বন্ধে ক্ষীণমাত্র শঙ্কা ছিলো না। তারা বৃষ্টির জন্য অপেক্ষা করছিলো। সুতারাং মেঘের দর্শনে তারা উৎফুল্ল হয়ে উঠলো। ঘন কালো মেঘ যখন তাদের দিকে অগ্রসর হতে থাকলো তারা উৎফুল্ল হয়ে উঠলো এই ভেবে যে বৃষ্টির পানি তাদের সেচ প্রণালীকে পরিপূর্ণ করে তুলবে। উপযুক্ত সেচের ফলে তাদের শষ্য ক্ষেত্র শষ্যের দ্বারা পরিপূর্ণ হয়ে যাবে। কিন্তু না, এটা কোনও সাধারণ মেঘ ছিলো না, এটা ছিলো টর্নেডো এর পূর্বাভাষ। প্রচন্ড বাতাস, ঘুর্ণিঝড়, ধূলা, বালি তাদের সৃষ্ট সকল কিছুকে এক লহমায় ধ্বংস স্তুপে পরিণত করে দেয়। জীবন ধবংস হয়, শষ্য ক্ষেত্র পাথর ও বালিতে পরিপূর্ণ হয়ে পড়ে। একদা সমৃদ্ধ নগরী, জনশূন্য, ঊষর স্থানে পরিণত হয়ে পড়ে। যারা একদিন নিজেদের উৎকর্ষতায় অহংকারে মত্ত ছিলো। যে সভ্যতাকে তারা দীর্ঘদিন তিলে তিলে গড়ে তুলেছিলো তা একমূহুর্তের মধ্যে ধূলিস্যাৎ হয়ে যায়। তাদের সভ্যতার ধ্বংসাবশেষ অতীতের সাক্ষর হয়ে পড়ে মাত্র।
