তারা বলল, তুমি কি আমাদেরকে আমাদের উপাস্য দেব-দেবী থেকে নিবৃত্ত করতে আগমন করেছ? তুমি সত্যবাদী হলে আমাদেরকে যে বিষয়ের ওয়াদা দাও, তা নিয়ে আস।
They said: ”Have you come to turn us away from our âliha (gods)? Then bring us that with which you threaten us, if you are one of the truthful!”
قَالُوا أَجِئْتَنَا لِتَأْفِكَنَا عَنْ آلِهَتِنَا فَأْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَا إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ
Qaloo aji/tana lita/fikana AAan alihatina fa/tina bima taAAiduna in kunta mina alssadiqeena
YUSUFALI: They said: “Hast thou come in order to turn us aside from our gods? Then bring upon us the (calamity) with which thou dost threaten us, if thou art telling the truth?”
PICKTHAL: They said: Hast come to turn us away from our gods? Then bring upon us that wherewith thou threatenest us, if thou art of the truthful.
SHAKIR: They said: Have you come to us to turn us away from our gods; then bring us what you threaten us with, if you are of the truthful ones.
KHALIFA: They said, “Did you come to divert us from our gods? We challenge you to bring (the retribution) you threaten, if you are truthful.”
২২। তারা বলেছিলো,” তুমি কি আমাদেরকে আমাদের দেব-দেবীগুলির পূঁজা থেকে নিবৃত্ত করতে এসেছ ? যদি তুমি সত্যবাদী হও তবে আমাদের যে [ শাস্তির ] ভয় দেখাচ্ছ তা আনায়ন কর ৪৮০০।
৪৮০০। পাপের পথ সত্যের আলো প্রবেশের পথকে অবরুদ্ধ করে দেয়। আদ্ জাতিও এর ব্যতিক্রম ছিলো না, আল্লাহ্র বিধানকে অস্বীকার করে তারা তাদের সৃষ্ট বিধানে এতটাই নিমগ্ন হয়ে পড়ে যে, তারা আল্লাহ্ প্রেরিত রাসুলকে সনাক্ত করতে অক্ষম হয় এবং তার প্রচারিত আল্লাহ্র বাণী গ্রহণে অস্বীকার করে। তারা আল্লাহকে প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতায় আহ্বান করে এবং আল্লাহ্র শাস্তিকে আহ্বান করে। এই আহ্বানের মাধ্যমে আল্লাহ্র প্রতি অবিশ্বাসই প্রকাশ করা হয়।
