আর যখন মূসা তার সম্প্রদায়কে বলল, হে আমার সম্প্রদায়, তোমরা তোমাদেরই ক্ষতিসাধন করেছ এই গোবৎস নির্মাণ করে। কাজেই এখন তওবা কর স্বীয় স্রষ্টার প্রতি এবং নিজ নিজ প্রাণ বিসর্জন দাও। এটাই তোমাদের জন্য কল্যাণকর তোমাদের স্রষ্টার নিকট। তারপর তোমাদের প্রতি লক্ষ্য করা হল। নিঃসন্দেহে তিনিই ক্ষমাকারী, অত্যন্ত মেহেরবান।
And (remember) when Mûsa (Moses) said to his people: ”O my people! Verily, you have wronged yourselves by worshipping the calf. So turn in repentance to your Creator and kill yourselves (the innocent kill the wrongdoers among you), that will be better for you with your Lord.” Then He accepted your repentance. Truly, He is the One Who accepts repentance, the Most Merciful.
وَإِذْ قَالَ مُوسَى لِقَوْمِهِ يَا قَوْمِ إِنَّكُمْ ظَلَمْتُمْ أَنفُسَكُمْ بِاتِّخَاذِكُمُ الْعِجْلَ فَتُوبُواْ إِلَى بَارِئِكُمْ فَاقْتُلُواْ أَنفُسَكُمْ ذَلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ عِندَ بَارِئِكُمْ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِنَّهُ هُوَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ
Wa-ith qala moosa liqawmihi ya qawmi innakum thalamtum anfusakum biittikhathikumu alAAijla fatooboo ila bari-ikum faoqtuloo anfusakum thalikum khayrun lakum AAinda bari-ikum fataba AAalaykum innahu huwa alttawwabu alrraheemu
YUSUFALI: And remember Moses said to his people: “O my people! Ye have indeed wronged yourselves by your worship of the calf: So turn (in repentance) to your Maker, and slay yourselves (the wrong-doers); that will be better for you in the sight of your Maker.” Then He turned towards you (in forgiveness): For He is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful.
PICKTHAL: And when Moses said unto his people: O my people! Ye have wronged yourselves by your choosing of the calf (for worship) so turn in penitence to your Creator, and kill (the guilty) yourselves. That will be best for you with your Creator and He will relent toward you. Lo! He is the Relenting, the Merciful.
SHAKIR: And when Musa said to his people: O my people! you have surely been unjust to yourselves by taking the calf (for a god), therefore turn to your Creator (penitently), so kill your people, that is best for you with your Creator: so He turned to you (mercifully), for surely He is the Oft-returning (to mercy), the Merciful.
KHALIFA: Recall that Moses said to his people, “O my people, you have wronged your souls by worshiping the calf. You must repent to your Creator. You shall kill your egos. This is better for you in the sight of your Creator.” He did redeem you. He is the Redeemer, Most Merciful.
৫৪। এবং স্মরণ কর মুসা তার সম্প্রদায়কে বলেছিলো, ‘হে আমার সম্প্রদায়! গো বৎসকে উপাসনা করে তোমরা নিজের [আত্মার] প্রতি ঘোর অত্যাচার করেছ। সুতরাং তোমরা তোমাদের সৃষ্টিকর্তার দিকে [অনুতাপের মাধ্যমে] ফিরে এসো এবং [পাপীরা] নিজেদের হত্যা কর ৬৯। তোমাদের সৃষ্টিকর্তার চোখে এটাই শ্রেয়! অতঃপর তিনি তোমাদের ক্ষমা করলেন। তিনি অত্যন্ত ক্ষমাশীল, পরম দয়ালু।’
৬৯। ওল্ড টেস্টামেন্টের ভাষ্য অনুযায়, ‘Go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor………. and there fell of the people that day 3,000 men.’ আধ্যাত্মিক দৃষ্টিকোণ থেকে বলতে হয় হত্যা ছিল তাদের জন্য মহা পরীক্ষা। কিন্তু আল্লাহ্ তাদের ক্ষমা করে দিলেন। ‘আন্ফুসাকুম’ শব্দটির অর্থ হচ্ছে ‘আত্মা’, ‘ব্যক্তি’ নয়। সেদিক থেকে অর্থ করলে হযরত মুসার নির্দেশের অর্থ দাঁড়ায়, ‘গো-বৎস পূজার’ দ্বারা তোমরা তোমাদের আত্মাকে কলুষিত করেছ সুতরাং তোমাদের অপবিত্র আত্মাকে বিনাশ কর। আল্লাহ্র চোখে তা-ই হবে তোমাদের জন্য প্রযোজ্য।
